The S.P.A.C.E (Society for the Preservation of Art & Culture in Evanston)

provides a flexible creative canvas for the community. Serving as an ideal venue for music, dance, visual arts, theater, and literary arts, the versatile 3,000 square foot area offers exceptional sight lines and sound. The rustic urban décor is highlighted by the wood floor, made from the original timbers of an East Coast barn, as well as vaulted ceilings and exposed brick walls. With collapsible tables and chairs and portable staging and technologically advanced video and audio recording equipment, the S.P.A.C.E is versatile as well as stylish. By combining flexibility with functionality, it’s a venue that could easily be used for hosting a business meeting by day and showcasing an up-and-coming band by night.

Booking information for SPACE

We request that all booking inquiries go through email, and that phone calls and unannounced visits be avoided. Direct emails to info@evanstonspace.com and please include links to websites where your music can be heard.  Also include information about where you have played in the area, what the ticket price was charged, and what the turnout was.  We promise we'll review your music, but please be patient as our list of submissions is currently quite lengthy.

FAQ

Where is SPACE?
We're at 1245 Chicago Ave, on the south east corner of the Dempster-Chicago intersection. We're easily accessible by public transportation, just a block east of the Dempster St purple line "el" stop. You'll enter through the same entrance as Union Pizzeria, and find SPACE signs just inside the door.

How old do I need to be to attend a show at SPACE?
At SPACE we're trying to be as inclusive as possible, and that means all ages are welcome here. If there is excessive crying or drooling, we may ask you to take a lap. Otherwise, come on down.

Is there food available during the show?
SPACE is BYOP.  You can order pizzas at the host stand in Union (the restaurant in the front of our building), and bring them back during the show.  This is a low key affair, and full service dining is not available in SPACE.  Please, no food or beverages from outside the building.

Drinks?
Drinks for everyone. Alcoholic beverages are available to those of age (we card pretty hard) and we've got a nice selection of non-alcoholic things, too.  There is no drink minimum.  Credit cards are accepted at the bar.  Waitress service is often available during shows.

Is there parking at SPACE?
Not inside the Club itself (though it was an automobile dealership at one time). There is plenty of on-street parking along Dempster Street and Chicago Avenue, and a free municipal garage right across the street from us.  All metered parking in the surrounding area is complimentary after 6pm everyday as well as all day on Sundays.

Are there chairs?
Here's the deal. If having a seat is absolutely necessary for you to attend the concert, you should take advantage of our reserved table seating option.  It costs a bit more, but it's the only way to guarantee a seat. The general admission section is laid out differently each night. Even when we have our maximum seating out, there may still be some patrons standing. No spot in the room, standing or seated is further an 25 feet from the stage. We understand that standing for a show is not an option for everyone.

There are occassions where a show will have 3 levels of tickets.  A reserved table seat, a general admission guaranteed seat, and a standing room ticket. This will be indicated on our event listings if it is being offered.

Can I reserve a table?
Yes. It's much cooler but it does cost more. You'll see the option available on the ticketing page of the event, if table seating is available.
I only see general admission tickets available.  Why aren't reserved table seats offered?
There are only 65 reserved table seats available for each show.  These tend to sell out first.  If you don't see the reserved table seat option on our ticketing page, then those types of tickets have sold out.  Make sure to join our email list so you can have first crack at buying table seats when new shows are announced.

Can I use a credit card to pay for tickets and drinks?
SPACE now accepts credit cards for tickets purchased at the door, as well as at the bar.  There is a $1 fee to use a credit card for ticket purchases.

How can I buy advanced tickets?
The easiest way to purchase tickets is through the "Buy Tix" tab on this website. If you'd prefer to place an order over the phone, you can do so at 866-468-3401.  Additionally, SPACE now offers limited box office hours.  You can purchase tickets for all of our shows at SPACE from 7:30pm-9:30pm on nights when a show is taking place.  Please consult our website to see when there are shows taking place.  Tickets purchased in person at SPACE are not subject to service fees, although there is a $1 per order fee to use a credit card.  Additionally, several Saturdays each month we sell tickets during the day from 11am-2pm.  Keep an eye on our email list to find out about those events.

I purchased tickets to be picked up at will call.  When can I come pick them up?

There are no physical tickets to pickup. We will have your name on a list and you will be able to check in outside the door of the venue once the doors open for the show. Make sure to bring a form of ID and the credit card you used to pay for the tickets.

How do I know if a show is sold out?
If a show is completely sold out, we'll post it on this website.  If the website doesn't say the show is sold out, count on us having tickets available for purchase at the door starting half an hour before the scheduled show.  Do keep in mind that the number of tickets on-sale at the door can sometimes be a limited amount, and can sell out quickly at the door.

The show I want to see is sold out.  Will there be more tickets?
Occassionaly, we have cancellations or artists' guestlists are smaller than anticipated and additional tickets open up.  If that happens, we will make those extra tickets available on-line.

The show is sold out.  Can I come and try to get in anyways?
You're welcome to come out and try your luck.  We'll ask you to wait until just after show time.  If possible, we'll squeeze you in.  No guarantees though.

What time do doors open?
Doors open between 30 and 50 minutes prior to the start time of the show.  Please keep in mind that a line typically starts to form between 7-7:30pm. If weather is inclement, we may try to open doors earlier to allow our guests to get inside.

What time is the show over?
Unfortunately, we don't have an answer to this question. Unless there is a reason to, we don't give our artists a curfew and prefer to let them go wherever the night may take them.  It's generally a safe bet to assume a show will be over roughly 2-2.5 hours after the posted start time.

Will I be able to purchase the artist's albums at the show, and get the signed?
Yes!  Just about every artist does sell their merchandise following the show.  In most cases they'll stick around to sign items and greet fans following the show.

I'm coming in from out of town.  Are there hotels nearby?
We recommend Hotel Orrington at 1710 Orrington Ave just 6 blocks north of SPACE.  They can be reached at 847-866-8700.

Is it possible to rent out SPACE for my next private event?
Yes, we do occassionally rent the room for private events.  Contact us at info@evanstonspace.com to find out more.

I'd like to perform at SPACE.  How can I make that happen?
There are many factors that go into the booking of SPACE.  We're happy to take a look at what you do and see if it might be a good fit.  Please email info@evanstonspace.com with links to websites where your music can be heard, and information about where you've played, what tickets cost, and how many people came.  Please no phone calls or unscheduled visits.

I left me credit card, wallet, show, etc at SPACE last night.  How can I get it back?
You'd be amazed what makes it's way into the SPACE lost and found.  Unfortunately, it's not always possible for us to return every call about a lost item however we will try.  Your best bet may be to stop by the next show night to see if the item was found.

Who took the photos on the SPACE homepage?
The photos in the slideshow on the homepage were taken by Harvey Tillis. His beautiful shots are also featured in the entrance hallway to the venue.  His website can be found here.
