Bill Frisell Quartet
featuring Tony Scherr, Rudy Royston, and Ron Miles
with Paul Wertico Trio
"It's hard to find a more fruitful meditation on American music than in the compositions of guitarist Bill Frisell. Mixing rock and country with jazz and blues, he's found what connects them: improvisation and a sense of play. Unlike other pastichists, who tend to duck passion, Mr. Frisell plays up the pleasure in the music and also takes on another often-avoided subject, tenderness." - The New York Times
"I like to have fun when I play and I like comedy - but it's not a conscious thing. I'm basically a pretty shy person and I don't dance or get into fights. But there are all these things inside me that get out when I perform. It's like a real world when I play, where I can do all the things I can't do in real life." - Bill Frisell to The Village Voice
Hailed as "one of the most versatile and musical drummers in music," Paul Wertico gained worldwide attention as a member of the Pat Metheny Group from 1983 to 2001. During that time, he won seven Grammy Awards, won numerous magazine polls (including "Fusion Drummer of the Year") and received several Gold Records. His playing has been compared to that of an "impressionist painter," "an inspired madman," and "a restless innovator," and in 2004, Paul was honored as one of the Chicago Tribune's "Chicagoans of the Year." Paul also serves as an Assistant Professor and Head of Jazz Studies at Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. His trio features John Moulder on guitar and Brian Peters on bass.
