Rock For Reading Benefit: An Evening With Alice Peacock

    

Rock for Reading is a not-for-profit literacy organization founded by Alice Peacock in 2004. Since its inception, Rock for Reading has given away the equivalent of over $1,000,000 through a combination of monetary grants and the dollar value of the books donated. Peacock is an American folk singer-songwriter from White Bear Lake, Minnesota. Her music has been featured on various film and television soundtracks.

Lucy Kaplansky

Lucy Kaplansky, a folk-music veteran who was once a clinical psychiatrist, has a fetching voice and an insightful perspective on the human condition. She lives up to her reputation, displaying her lovely, moving voice in collaborations with Shawn Colvin, Suzanne Vega, Richard Shindell, and Dar Williams. Based out of New York City but originally from Chicago, Kaplansky returns to her hometown on her journey to becoming the "troubadour laureate of modern city folk" (The Boston Globe).

Local songstress Ashley Brooke Toussant performs and opening set with Tommi Zender.

Brian Gephart Group recreates A Love Supreme

  

Brian Gephart Group celebrates the 44th anniversary of the recording of the classic John Coltrane jazz album by performing the four-part suite A Love Supreme, as well as some originals and some other Coltrane compositions and favorites.

Don Ross and Brooke Miller

 

Canadian fingerstyle guitarist Don Ross, known for the emotion and intensity of his playing as well as his use of extended technique, borrows from rock, jazz, folk, and classical music, creating a style he describes as "heavy wood." Ross's wife, musician Brooke Miller, the daughter of eclectic artists and musicians, contributes her wide-range of musical talent to the fray, combining her love for finger-picking and even jazz.

Harry Shearer and Judith Owen's Holiday Sing-A-Long

SPACE is proud to present actor/comedian Harry Shearer (The Simpsons, Le Show) and his wife, critically acclaimed singer/songwriter and humorist Judith Owen, in an evening of holiday music and mirth. The evening unites Christmas-lovers and Scrooges alike, in traditional and nontraditional holiday music, part performance, part sing-along. Both reverent and irreverent...a perfect kick-off to the holiday season featuring surprise special guests.

Over a career of jazz, R&B, and crossover recordings, husband-and-wife duo Tuck & Patti have produced a remarkable amount of music, especially considering that they rely on the textures of only guitar and voice. The Jazzy song stylings of Tuck & Patti sound as fresh as ever. Tuck's amazing layered jazz guitar shredding is the perfect complement to the deep soulful voice of Patti.

Foiled Again

     

Foiled Again, a cabaret act featuring Allison Bazarko, Rob Lindley, Anne Sheridan Smith and Jeff award-winning Doug Peck as musical director, will perform for the Wilmette Theater Education Projects holiday benefit. Foiled Again has been keeping cabaret hip, young, and classy with their tight vocal harmonies since 2001. A funny, warm, musically-amazing look at the holidays, and the things we all find ourselves wishing for, whether it be for a new toy, some peace and quiet, or even good old-fashioned love.

Stacy Phillips is an internationally acclaimed resonator guitarist and violin player. He has performed with the top acoustic musicians over the world. He has three solo albums and is featured artist on the Grammy award-winning album The Great Dobro Sessions. Stacy is the author of over 25 books and DVD's on various aspects of his chosen instruments.   Stacy will perform with Don Steirnberg.  This concert is presented by Seman Violins.
