Tommy Malone

Tommy Malone

On stage, standing front and center, Tommy Malone exudes a laid-back, down-to-earth style that epitomizes the subdudes. But his self-assured exterior masks a songwriter who mines heartache and elation, the surreal and the everyday, and who crafts the experiences into instantly memorable tunes. As the subdudes’ lead guitarist, he punctuates soulful, heart-felt vocals with playing that is at turns joyful, incendiary, melancholic.

He's been writing and playing music for more than three decades – 15 years off and on with the subdudes, and another decade and half before that with many of the same guys.

"He was always the way he is now,” says fellow subdude Steve Amedée, who would know – he's been playing music with Malone since Tommy was a sophomore in high school.

When are ya coming back to Minnesota? I was the guy who talked to you at the Minnesota zoo. We used Carved in Stone for my wifes sisters funeral. What an unbelievable song. Thank you for writing it.

Tommy, ya'll were so freakin' good at Vermilionville on 3/29. Thanks for the encore "Carved In Stone". It may not be part of your repertoire, but it was awesome. Makes me think of my Dad whenever I hear it. Hope you guys make it this way again soon. I'll be waiting for the CD release!

I can't begin to tell you how much your music means to me. I lived in Austin and heard you on the radio in 2003. I have everyone of your CD's . I must have a ton of other bands cd's but I only play yours over and over. I've never been able to see you in person, The Subdudes is the only thing in my bucket list. Since it looks like I may never get to see you, this past Christmas I bought a Bose Wave System and now you play all over my house. I was I was concieved in NOLO, my 1st vacation at 6 mos. was to New Orleans. I was born and raised on the border of Texas ( Longview, TX ) at Shreveport/Bossier City and since there were only three TV stations, all from Louisiana, I've been conflicted all my life as to where I'm from, so I decided I am just Bi-State! When I found you guys it was like the last missing piece of the puzzel. This was MY MUSIC. Please, please, please don't ever stop playing. I work in film doing continuity, makeup and costume design and I've been trying like hell to get picked for Treme'. It would be like going HOME again. Namaste!
