Story Pirates AfterDark for grown-ups only is back! With music, puppets, and a hilarious glimpse of the world through the minds of kids, this is the only show in town where you might see a David Bowie-style tribute to a good Hebrew School education. Based in New York and Los Angeles, the Story Pirates have blown the minds of 500,000 second graders. You're next.
As Geek Magazine describes it, "Story Pirates shares little in common with modern day children's programming; it's more in line with classic, geeky fare like Sesame Street, or the all-ages entertainment provided by Pixar." They don't dress as pirates or make anybody walk the plank, but Story Pirates do steal: they take their inspiration from kids themselves, creating an entire show adapted from stories penned by authors under the age of twelve. This literacy group's official mission is to "honor the words and ideas of young people." And while their creative writing programs in over 100 mostly low-income schools across the country evince a substantive educational program, the edgy style of their sketch comedy musical—mimicking kids' own unfiltered logic—more closely resembles vintage Monty Python than Blues Clues.
"It’s crazy entertaining.” - Jon Stewart, The Daily Show
