June Shellene
In 2010, June Shellene released her second CD, Wait ‘Til Midnight Ends, an eclectic blend of original jazz, blues and pop. She performs frequently with bassist and sometimes, but not often enough co-writer, Jim Cox. Her writing skills have made her a mainstay of Katerina’s Composers’ Studio, and her songs have been covered by Judy Roberts, Patti LuPone and many others, too numerous to mention, but trust me, they’re really, really famous. Always on the lookout for compelling songs, she also brings a wealth of material to her audience, from infrequently performed covers to compositions by Bella Fleck and the great Fred Kaz. June’s sordid past has taken her from the piano bench of Second City to the musical director’s chair for many a Chicago (and even one Broadway) theatrical production. One of her favorite activities of late has been playing behind the wild and wacky Sons of The Never Wrong. She is featured in the October 20 issue of the Reader’s Secret History of Chicago Music, but she wants to emphasize that the rumors of her death have been greatly exaggerated.
