Brighton, MA is a five-piece rock band from Chicago. Named for lead singer/songwriter Matt Kerstein's hometown, BMA was formed in 2006. Its current lineup, formed in January 2009, has developed into a seasoned, cohesive, and innovative group. Brighton has built a reputation throughout the Midwest on a series of blistering live performances (documented in 2009's Schubas Residency EP) and a catalog of tuneful, well-crafted songs, heard on such television shows as Community, Gossip Girl, and Castle. The band's musicality and showmanship has led them to play with a wide variety of acts, including Old 97s, The Sea and Cake, Dax Riggs, Backyard Tire Fire, The Good Life, and Company of Thieves, among others. BMA has also recently starred in a television show, Red Bull Rock the Route - a documentary-style web series (with broadcast to follow) following two unsigned bands from Chicago to Los Angeles down historic Route 66.
BMA is now finishing and mixing their second full-length album, Oh Lost. Written and recorded over a 14-month period, the album finds the band at a turning point, combining new influences with developed musical chemistry. The band has found a new immediacy without losing its range, in part thanks to production assistance from Sea and Cake guitarist Archer Prewitt. With an upcoming broadcast television show and a fuill-length album in the mixing process, 2011 stands to be a big year for Brighton, MA.
